What personal data we collect and why we collect it

Customer Data

To provide services to our clients, we must collect sufficient information to provide those services and collect payment for them. This includes any data we are obliged to keep for administrative, legal, or security purposes.

Web Site Data

When you access the Monolateral web site, we collect and log the standard web server information of your IP address (which may be used to identify general geographical information regarding your country and possibly city) and browser type of your access.

Contact forms

If you fill out a form on the web site to contact us, we will collect the information you provide in the form. That information is sent to us by email, which may be retained indefinitely to be able to respond to and/or provide service to you.

We preserve any contact information in offline systems and/or on a third party email service provider.

Comments

If visitors leave comments on the site we collect the data shown in the comments form, and also the visitor’s IP address and browser user agent string to help spam detection.

If you publish a comment on the site, an anonymized string created from your email address (also called a hash) may be provided to the Gravatar service to see if you are using it. The Gravatar service privacy policy is available here: https://automattic.com/privacy/. After approval of your comment, your profile picture is visible to the public in the context of your comment.

Media

If you upload images to the website, you should avoid uploading images with embedded location data (EXIF GPS) included. Visitors to the website can download and extract any location data from images on the website.

If you provide material for publishing or translation, we may retain that information in offline systems, on the web server, or in third party cloud services that are not open to public access.

Cookies

This site uses cookies to track visitor interest and page use of the web site. These cookies do not contain any personal information.

We use cookies to keep track of shopping cart contents while you’re browsing our site.

If you leave a comment on our site you may opt-in to saving your name, email address and website in cookies. These are for your convenience so that you do not have to fill in your details again when you leave another comment.

If you have an account and you log in to this site, we will set a temporary cookie to determine if your browser accepts cookies. This cookie contains no personal data and is discarded when you close your browser.

When you log in, we will also set up several cookies to save your login information and your screen display choices.

If you edit or publish an article, an additional cookie will be saved in your browser. This cookie includes no personal data and simply indicates the post ID of the article you just edited.

Embedded content from other websites

Articles on this site may include embedded content (e.g. videos, images, articles, etc.). Embedded content from other websites behaves in the exact same way as if the visitor has visited the other website.

These websites may collect data about you, use cookies, embed additional third-party tracking, and monitor your interaction with that embedded content, including tracing your interaction with the embedded content if you have an account and are logged in to that website.

Analytics

We do not utilize outside traffic analysis services.

Who we share your data with

We only share your data with third parties to the minimum extent necessary to provide our services to you. We do not sell your information in any form.

If you pay by credit card or bank transfer, the information necessary to carry out those transactions may be shared with our bank and/or a third party processor. If we provide you with email services, your information necessary to provide those services will be shared with a third party email provider.

If you choose to share a post on this site to a social media provider, the information necessary to complete that transaction will be sent to the provider.

How long we retain your data

If you leave a comment, the comment and its metadata are retained indefinitely. This is so we can recognize and approve any follow-up comments automatically instead of holding them in a moderation queue.

For users that register on our website (if any), we also store the personal information they provide in their user profile. All users can see, edit, or delete their personal information at any time (except they cannot change their username). Website administrators can also see and edit that information.

Any material provided for publishing or translation, as well as any ancillary information necessary to provide those services, will be retained indefinitely.

What rights you have over your data

If you have an account on this site, or have left comments, you can request to receive an exported file of the personal data we hold about you, including any data you have provided to us. You can also request that we erase any personal data we hold about you. This does not include any data we are obliged to keep for administrative, legal, or security purposes.

If you prefer that your material not be processed through third party machine translation services you have the right to require that we not use them.

Where we send your data

Visitor comments may be checked through an automated spam detection service.

We utilize third party accounting services that require your personal information to administer the services we provide you.

Payment information you provide will be sent to third parties for processing. Credit card information is processed in a way that the card never passes through the web server. If you provide payment information by telephone, we will retain no credit card numbers or CVV2 information. If you give us your permission to store the card number for future payments, we will enter it in a third party server that will securely retain it such that we can only see the last four digits for card identification purposes.

Translation and Publishing Data

We may store your personal information in third party provided cloud services that are closed to uncontrolled access.

While all translations are made by a human, material for translation may be sent to third party machine translation services as an aid to finding the best translation. Third party machine translation services may retain copies of the material as part of their ongoing work to refine their machine translation processes. If you prefer that your material not be processed through third party machine translation services you have the right to require that we not use them.

Material provided for translation or publishing may be selectively shared from a third party cloud storage service to specific email addresses to facilitate the exchange of large files. Users who have access to such material are responsible for the security of the systems used to access the cloud provider, as well as for any additional people they may invite to have access to the data.

How we protect your data

We use a variety of security processes on the systems that process your data to ensure against rootkits and known viruses, and we have controls in place to temporarily block addresses that exceed a low threshold of excessive login attempts or other abusive traffic. All connections to the web site are secure; any insecure connections to the web site are immediately forced to a secure connection. Offline servers are in a secure environment.

Updates

Monolateral reserves the right to change the policy on use of information collected. Any changes in policy will be noted in a revised Privacy Policy statement. Your continued use of Monolateral services and/or web sites after any changes or revisions to this Privacy Policy shall indicate your agreement with the terms of the revised Privacy Policy.
